I stopped using facebook a long time ago and was hoping it would be dead by now, tbh. I recently started using it again for medium article distribution.
Business POV,
1. I think the monopoly laws aren't changing anytime soon and facebook's ARPU has grown more than 9% in 2020.
2. The social media giant is an ad lease machine, the potential of audience to make payments is appreciated by marketers. Only 23% is between 18-24 which is working in Facebook's favour.
3. The next big shift could be social shopping and AR/VR which facebook is heavily investing into.
I really liked the part where you talked about ads creating havoc in the society. If we take the case of Cambridge Analytica, these ads were "targeted" and still Facebook fails to take responsibility. This election also saw lots of criticism when the company declined to take down content.
Overall, I think only active participation of boycotting the platform could help as businesses will keep flocking to places where audience is.
Great read, thank you for sharing.
